ORAL HISTORIES
Keith Jarrett
Raised in London by Jamaican parents. Feels his mindset is more Caribbean. Found gay scene very white when he first came out. Discovered other black queer people through the poetry scene. Self-describes as queer and talks about evolution of the use of the term.
Speaks about archives and queering history; his work teaching writing and poetry to teens; changes he’s seen in the visibility and positive representation of queer lives from the 90’s to now; Brixton as a hub for QTPOC spaces and events; debate within his circle over trans, non-binary identities and different levels of privilege; his plans for a novel based on his PhD thesis.
