Savi Hensman
Family emigrated from Sri Lanka when she was two. Came to terms with her sexuality at 16 and got involved in LGBT groups at university and locally within the Islington and Haringey Gay Group. Details her time as an Outreach and Development Worker for the Black Lesbian and Gay Centre Project.
Talks about family’s acceptance of her Afro-Caribbean partner and her closeness to her partners sisters; reconciling her Christian faith with her sexuality; LGBT activism in Haringey; her writing for national newspapers; her late partner’s work, illness and eventual passing from cancer. Encourages queer people today to reach out for support.
