Grew up in a strict Catholic household as a tomboy and knew she was different in her teens. Later came out as gay. Prefers that term to “lesbian”. Started socializing through the Brixton Black Women’s Group.

Reflects on dating and long-term relationships. Experienced some racism and homophobia and including internalized homophobia. Worked in the voluntary sector; was a co-founder of the Black Lesbian and Gay Centre; on Management Committee when HQ was in Tottenham. Left voluntary sector for financial services. Credits the overlap of activist groups with widening her consciousness. Reflects on how race and feminist politics have changed.
