Gillian Rodney
Grew up in care from 3 months old after death of her mother and then with extended family from 5. Came out as gay at 21 after identifying as bisexual. Got positive responses from immediate family. Lived gay friendly Hackney and found black queer scene through house parties in Tottenham. DJ’d on the scene from 1992 to 2004.
Talks about marginalisation and fight to get people of colour tent at Pride; feeling of family black LGBTQ get from the scene; how Black Pride feels like a safe, relaxed space; and evolving inclusivity within the queer community around issues like interracial dating and trans identities.
